Gravel for Driveways, Paths & Gardens Didsbury Manchester

Whether it’s in the satisfying crunch of a crisp new drive, the clean and tidy appearance of a well built path or the attractive contrast seen in a thoughtfully landscaped garden, gravelling is a traditional favourite method when it comes to presenting your property in its best light.

When laid correctly, with sufficient attention to both function and design, gravel will enhance the appearance of most properties, from the driveway, which forms most people’s first impression of your property, to garden paths and decorative flower beds.

MT Paving respect that every property is unique and that no two gravelling projects will be the same. We give our full attention to both the important preparatory stage and the small, finishing details to ensure our gravelling can meet or exceed your exacting standards.

As with all of our surfacing projects, gravelling will begin with a thorough excavation of your site to a necessary depth to provide the required support. For gravel driveways, this means a depth of 250mm. We use geo-tex membranes to keep weeds at bay without affecting drainage. For drives we will also add a layer of mechanically compacted MOT Grade 1 aggregate to form a level and stable base, before introducing the gravel of your choice.

Gravel comes in a wide variety of styles, with size, shape and colour the most important factors. The size of the stones are important because gravel that is very fine will wash away more easily in heavy rain and will also become caught in tyre treads and shoe grips. Gravel of no less than 10mm is usually best for drives and paths, while finer grades are best reserved for decorative effects, for example around flower beds.

Gravel drives usually last longer and require less maintenance with large, angular stones as these will lock together under the weight of vehicles, preventing rutting. In terms of colour, your choice of gravel can be used to ensure your drive blends in with other Greater Manchester properties or, if you prefer, stands out amongst them. In landscaping projects, the colour of your stones can complement or contrast other garden features. There are a wide range of light, dark and mixed gravels to choose from and MT Paving can also offer advice and ideas from our years of experience.

The skilled tradesmen of the MT Paving team have worked together for over 15 years and can promise a reliable and honest service, whatever your gravelling requirements.
